ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION & MUSIC THEORY

The University of Valley Forge seeks a full-time professor in the area of music education to commence in August 2018. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Teaching areas may include: Music theory (4 levels), aural skills (4 levels), fundamentals of music, music education courses, graduate music technology courses, oversight of graduate research projects (Theses), some applied teaching in area of expertise, other courses as needed based on qualifications
  • Demonstrate teaching competence in music education, music theory, aural skills, and music technology courses.
  • Assist Department Chair with selected administrative duties related to the graduate music technology program.
  • Advise students in academic program and career objectives.
  • Coordinate field experiences and student teaching placements in local public schools, including oversight of student teachers.
  • Maintain connections with the music education community in the Philadelphia area.
  • Promote and recruit students.
  • Actively support and participate in department events and initiatives.
  • Serve on departmental and institutional committees.
  • Be a collegial member of a dynamic, interactive faculty.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, Ph. D. preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of public school teaching experience (choral or instrumental)
  • Preference given to candidates with teaching experience on the university level
  • Preference given to candidates with strong piano skills
  • Knowledge in music technology desired
  • A member of an Assemblies of God church
