After the the widely popular singing competition, "The Voice" (NBC), aired its fourth audition episode of the season on March 3, VFCC student Joshua Howard can find his name in a number of entertainment news websites articles from media outlets like Yahoo TV and Wetpaint. Howard sang “This Is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren.
For those that have never seen the show, "The Voice" uses an “innovative format featuring four rounds of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and the live performance shows,” according to NBC. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice. The coaches hear the artists perform but they don't see them because their backs are turned on the performers. A coach impressed by an artist's voice will then push a button, signaling that they have selected the singer for their team. Simultaneously, the coach's chair swivels around so that they are able to see the singer. If multiple coaches push their buttons for a singer, the power shifts to the artist who can then choose the coach with whom they would like to work. If no coach pushes their button, the contestant is eliminated from the competition.

After Howard’s impressive performance, both Shakira and Adam Levine (two of the four celebrity coaches) wanted his soulful style for their respective teams. Howard decided to join Team Adam, perhaps influenced by the fact that Levine's team won the competition last season, among other reasons. Winners of "The Voice" are given a contract with Republic Records, which is owned by Universal Music Group.
Howard has played music from a very young age; since then his greatest inspiration has been his father, who raised him and his siblings as a single dad. Due to close family relationships, Howard currently plays in a band with his sister, but auditioned for "The Voice" to see if his talent could stand on its own.
You can watch a recap of Howard’s audition at and watch his last interview on YouTube. "I want to say thank you so much for all the support and love. Thanks so much again and again and I'm so blessed to have had this opportunity," stated Howard.
