VFCC Partners with the Center for the Advancement of Christian Coaching

Valley Forge Christian College School of Graduate Studies has formed a partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Christian Coaching (CACC) to offer professional-level certified coach training through VFCC's Master of Christian Leadership Program.

CACC President and VFCC alum (1990) Roger Erdvig was actively seeking a Christian graduate school to house their training programs when he discovered that VFCC had recently established an MA program in Christian Leadership. Immediately Roger saw a partnership between VFCC and CACC as a great fit, knowing that the college is poised for continued growth and wider influence. "We were looking for a progressive-minded graduate school that would be interested in pioneering graduate-level training in Christian Coaching," says Roger. "VFCC's mission to prepare effective leaders for the church and world made it a great candidate to house such strategic and practical leadership training."

Christian coaching is not only a fast-growing profession, but it is also the basis for an effective leadership model, when applied in organizational settings. Church, business, non-profit and other organizational leaders are beginning to embrace the Christian coaching values and methodology as a potent way to grow and develop current leaders and also to identify and raise up emerging leaders. With the looming succession crisis precipitated by the mass exodus of millions of baby-boomers from the workplace over the next several years, the stakes have never been higher for developing new leaders effectively. Christian coaching offers a replicable model for interacting with emerging leaders and other staff that profoundly accelerates their personal and professional growth.

With this partnership, VFCC joins only a very select few Christian colleges and universities that offer graduate-level coach training. Beginning in the Fall of 2008, students will be able to take "Essentials of Coach Training" as one of the courses in the graduate program in Christian Leadership. Through this modular/distance-based course, students are not only exposed to the art and science of Christian coaching, but they also acquire extensive experience in actual coaching conversations. Trainees who have taken the course from CACC report outcomes that include: better workplace communication, enhanced teamwork, and the ability to help followers find solutions to their challenges and growth goals on their own. Graduates of the program go on to lead with a coaching approach in diverse organizations or to acquire more training as they establish successful professional coaching practices.

In addition to teaching the graduate-level course, Roger Erdvig will also be teaching an undergraduate course called, "Coaching For Leadership." In this course, students gain a basic understanding of the values and skills of professional coaching, and how to apply them as coaching leaders.

VFCC is proud to be a pace-setter in this emerging field, and is excited about the impact these courses will have on current and future generations of Christian leaders.
