Alumni Writes for the Next Generation

While serving in his Pastoral Ministry internship at Valley Forge Christian College, Stephen Mitchell '07, found that, sadly, some of the youth he worked with weren't learning God's Word on a level that he felt was understandable and applicable. He was so burdened by this observation that he decided to do something about it. So Stephen Mitchell wrote a book.

Stephen always knew that part of his pastoral ministry would include writing. But with a burden this strong, he realized that he didn't have to wait until he left college to fulfill this part of his dream.

Soon he began looking for a publisher. After two years and about 150 rejections, he and his father decided to create their own publishing company, which they named Glorious Hope Publishing. Stephen's book, War with the World: The Teenage Battlefield, was finally published in May 2009.

Soon, Stephen began noticing another disturbing trend: many of his peers who went into college as strong Christians came out struggling in their faith. His burden for college students grew, and he began writing his next book: War with the World: The College Battlefield, which was published in January 2011.

Stephen's books have been sold at Creation Festival for the past two years, at Family Christian Stores in Annapolis, Md., on, and on his website. He hopes that they will soon be sold in Barnes & Noble bookstores and other Family Christian Stores.

Since graduation, Stephen has had the opportunity to serve as the Youth/Associate pastor of Trinity Bible Church in Severna Park, Md., where he established The Refuge, a program that works with about 50 young people each week. He loves his work. "Being a pastor is who I am. I'm fulfilling my God-given purpose and plan - to impact the lives of others."

Stephen's wife, Cassandra (Grabowski) '07, a Psychology graduate, is finishing her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University and will be licensed in May 2012.

Stephen has already begun brainstorming his next book.
