Valley Forge Christian College’s music department produced their annual holiday concert, Christmas at Valley Forge, on November 30 and December 1. After years of showcasing superb musical performances, Christmas at Valley Forge has come to be loved by those living on campus and in the surrounding community.
Guests were welcomed to the VFCC campus with trees covered in lights and luminaries lining the sidewalks. Christmas music was played from the bell tower – which could be heard across campus. Before entering the Flower Chapel, spectators were filled with the holiday joy and spirit.
The concert event featured a line-up that was packed with talent; VFCC students, staff, and faculty displayed musical prowess in an impressive variety of genres. The first half of the concert included the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, The Patriot Bells and College Choir. This portion of the program contained a new element from years previous: a perfectly choreographed light show that was synchronized to the rhythm of one of the wind ensemble pieces. Spectators were dazzled with a view of lasers and Christmas lights, as snow fell from the ceiling of the chapel. Every musical note signaled the flashing luminance of a new object, color or pattern. The first half of the show concluded with a carol sing, as audience members participated in holiday favorites, such as “Silent Night” and “Away in a Manger”.
Part two of Christmas at Valley Forge was comprised of excerpts from Handel’s Messiah – performed by the College Choir. A number of students were featured as soloists (Gavin Harper, Michael Levins, Elizabeth Ebron, Katherine Fisher, Elisabeth Harbison, Kaitlyn Bell, and Kamaren Holloway); each did an excellent job as the sound of their voice captivated the room. The show ended in a climactic exclamation, with the incomparably famous “Hallelujah Chorus.”
Christmas at Valley Forge was an extraordinary way to start the holiday season and ignite Christmas spirit in the heart of every audience member. Best of all, participants were sure to put Christ at the center of each performance. Spectators were encouraged to do the same through the Advent season.
The Music Department encourages excellence in performance for the Glory of God. It is clear that this goal was achieved in each performance. CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTOS FROM THE EVENT »
