Financial Services Counselor

Under the direction of the Financial Services Office, the counselor is responsible for counseling and assisting all students and their families with regard to the financial aid application process, the awarding of funds, verification of eligibility and the collection of student accounts receivables. This position reports to the Director of Financial Services and the Assistant Director of Financial Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized assistance and information to students and parents regarding student financial programs and services.
  • Counsel students and aid recipients regarding cost of attendance, methods of payment and management of financial responsibilities.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding aid application process, eligibility, availability of awards, financing/payment options and other financial aid and student account related questions by phone, email and in person.
  • Assist students with resolution of unusual problems and make adjustments as appropriate.
  • Follow up and collect outstanding balances from students with weekly reporting of progress on current accounts receivables.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Federal and State guidelines governing financial aid programs.
  • Audit student files for accuracy and completeness.
  • Utilize Federal and State agency online data management systems to troubleshoot student and college record management issues.
  • Perform related duties as required.



  • Bachelor’s degree in the education or business fields from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • One to three years of financial aid or student accounts administration experience including Title IV aid programs or equivalent.
  • Effective communication skills to support interaction with students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds regarding financial aid program requirements and procedures.
