WELCOME TO UVF!

Welcome to UVF! We are excited to meet you and to see how God will use the University community to prepare you for a life of service and leadership in the church and in the world.

Every aspect of New Student Orientation has been carefully planned to assist you in your transition. For this reason, your participation in orientation activities is mandatory.


SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE


FRIDAY AUGUST 26

SPECIAL INVITATION TO FAMILY MEMBERS:
Family members are encouraged to join us for this special day. University offices will be open from 8 am – 5 pm to facilitate your needs. Although travel plans may prohibit you from staying for the entire day, you are welcome to remain on campus until 8 pm.

NEW STUDENTS ARRIVE
8 – 11:30 AM ANVIL/CARDONE HALL
The big day is finally here! Arriving during this time will allow you to check in and then move into your room before our first activities - New Student Residence Life Lunch and Commuter Connection Lunch (12 pm). Please schedule your arrival time based on the first initial of your last name: A-L = 8 am; M-Z = 10 am. Commuter students should plan to arrive at 10:30 am. When you arrive on campus you will be greeted by friendly staff and enthusiastic students eager to help you move into your room.

When you check in you will receive a name badge. Please wear your name badge as it will serve as your meal ticket during Orientation until you have received your ID card. We’ll also be taking your picture for your student ID card.

Two parents (or guests) are invited to a ticketed lunch with the President and Cabinet from 12 – 1:30 pm with an RSVP. Register online at valleyforge.edu/parentluncheon by August 12.

Please note that important paperwork (like your Health Form) and documentation (such as your Financial Plan) must be complete before you can move into your room or receive your new laptop computer. If you have questions about what forms are still needed, call the Admissions Office and Business Office.

Be sure to make all schedule adjustments on this day as a $10 fee for each class you drop/add begins Tuesday (September 6).

NEW STUDENTS: RESIDENCE LIFE LUNCH AND COMMUTER CONNECTION LUNCH
12 – 1:30 PM DINING COMMONS
This is a mandatory meeting for all new students living in the residence halls. Be prepared for an informative time over lunch. Commuters will have a special section in The Anvil reserved just for them.

PARENTS: PARENT ORIENTATION LUNCHEON WITH THE PRESIDENT AND CABINET MEMBERS
12 - 1:30 PM FLOWER CHAPEL
While students are enjoying their lunch, parents are invited to dine with the President and his Cabinet for a special orientation and opportunity for parents to ask questions about the University. This event requires tickets and a registration.

FINANCIAL REGISTRATION
1:30 – 5:30 PM
You will be able to visit the Business Office and Financial Aid Office for appointments.

Students who have not completed their financial registration will be scheduled to meet with a University staff person during this time. You will receive your appointment time when you arrive on campus.

DINNER
4:30 – 6 PM DINING COMMONS
A delicious dinner is available free of charge to new students. Guests or family members can join their student for $12.50 per person.

WELCOME CONVOCATION
6:30 – 8 PM FLOWER CHAPEL
From the very beginning, we want you to experience the dynamic spiritual climate that is a hallmark of UVF. Interim President Byron Klaus will share an inspiring message for new students and family members.

SAY GOODBYE TO FAMILY MEMBERS
8 – 8:30 PM
The time has come to say goodbye to family members. Parents are invited to join us at Homecoming weekend on October 21-22, 2016!

NEW STUDENT FLOOR MEETINGS
8:30 – 9 PM RESIDENCE HALLS
Resident students return to their residence halls for a fun and informative time with their Resident Assistant and floormates.

FLOOR ICE CREAM SOCIAL
9 PM RESIDENCE HALLS
This late night activity is a great opportunity for you to continue to build relationships with other new students on your floor and in your building.


SATURDAY AUGUST 27

Students are welcomed to their START Teams.

START stands for “Striving Toward A Real Togetherness.” START Teams are small groups of new students led by energetic returning students. Team members will quickly become your friends as you interact with them in a safe and caring environment.

START Teams are important because you will build relationships with other new students and participate in other activities depending on the team you are assigned. Your START Team number is printed on your name badge.

During this time you will have opportunity to begin to experience life here at Valley Forge and connect with other new students.

FACULTY/STAFF DESSERTS

Your START Team will enjoy a delicious dessert in the home of a faculty or staff member. This is a highlight of the orientation! See your START Team Leaders for details.


SUNDAY AUGUST 28

WORSHIP SERVICE
9 – 10:30 AM FLOWER CHAPEL
One of our wonderful faculty members will be our speaker for the worship service.

BRUNCH
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM DINING COMMONS

PLACEMENT EXAMS ENGLISH/MATH TESTING
11:30 AM – 1:45 PM STAR CENTER
You will be notified if you are scheduled to take the English and Math exam.

START ACTIVITY
12 – 4:30 PM GREEN LANE COMMONS
We will conclude our day with some fun team-building activities. You don’t want to miss this exciting ending to your day.

DINNER
5 – 6:30 PM DINING COMMONS

Come and chill with your START Team. They have a special time planned just for you.


MONDAY AUGUST 29

MUSIC PLACEMENT EXAM & ADVISING
8:30 AM – 12 PM CLASSROOM 131
This exam is required for music majors, music minors, all music scholarship recipients and non-music majors who would like to enroll in a music class or an ensemble and have not already taken the exam. Results of this exam will determine proper course placement.

CONNECT2 LAPTOP PICKUP
9 AM – 5 PM STORMS RESEARCH CENTER
All new students who are receiving a laptop must attend this event during the designated time based on the first letter of your last name. It is here your laptop selection and eligibility will be confirmed. You will also sign terms and conditions and pick up your laptop. Then you will also be guided through a personal step by step setup for your laptop so your laptop will be ready for use before classes begin.

DAY CLASSES BEGIN!
Classes begin at various times. Check your registration schedule for your first class of the day.

OPENING CONVOCATION
10 – 11 AM FLOWER CHAPEL
Chapel is scheduled each day from 10 – 11 am. The first Chapel features the faculty and administration in their academic regalia. Interim President Byron Klaus will be sharing a special opening message as we begin the college year.


THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1

JOB FAIR
11 AM – 2 PM HERITAGE HALLWAY
Looking for a job? UVF makes finding one easy! Drop by the Job Fair to talk with local employers about working for their business.

RESIDENCE LIFE MEETINGS
6:30 – 9:30 PM FLOWER CHAPEL
Come and find out the latest news from the Residence Life team. This meeting is required of all resident students.

END OF SUMMER PARTY

Join us for an exciting event to end the summer and kick off the school year hosted by the Student Government Association.
