Celebrating Ten Years in Media

After a mandatory internship with Glad Tidings Church in Reading, Pa., Brady Treat '03 was asked to come back for another semester. “I’d just go to the church a few days a week to help while I was in school. They were still recording sermons on cassette tapes back then, so I’d do things like record onto CDs and make videos. Getting a job in media ministry back then was still pretty rare.”

But Treat just happens to be one of those pioneering-types. He was hired full-time after graduation and worked hard to prove that a media position was important to the life of the church.

Apparently, someone caught the vision of how important a media position was. Now, as the Productions Director, Treat leads an entire team of staff members to do what he once did alone. Together they brainstorm the media aspects for each weekend service experience: the stage design, graphics, sound, lighting and production details. He doesn’t necessarily have his hand in every video like he used to but he manages the projects around the church, making sure that everyone on his team has the resources they need each week and that the equipment is running properly and being utilized in creative ways. He trains and releases each of his weekend volunteers and puts them into positions where they can succeed.

“I love seeing the church grow and being able to share people’s stories and I look forward to continuing to provide the church with quality and relevant means of communicating the gospel. I may not be able to preach like the pastor, or lead a small group, but I can take their messages and put a relevant twist on them to make it that much easier for people to see the love of God and what He has planned for each one of us.”

Treat and his wife, Serena, live in Reading with their dogs, Pip and Smeagol, and their foster-dog, Hotch.
