Reasons Why Snow Days in College are the Best

Your alarm goes off – buzz buzz, beep beep – and you roll over, eyes still closed, to hit snooze. Probably for the second or third time, now that you think about it. You open your eyes a sliver to aim, and you see it: the notification that because of anticipated ice, snow, and driving conditions, all daytime classes and activities have been canceled and administrative offices will be closed. Forget snooze, you turn the alarm off. Sleeping in, though, is just one reason why snow days are the best. Here’s a full list.

1. Sleeping in
Ahh, rest. Sometimes as college students, we can run ourselves ragged. A snow day is a perfect opportunity to recharge and reclaim some of that elusive starstuff we call sleep.

2. Catching up
A whole day without classes? Sounds like a day for homework to me – all from the comfort of your own bed, if you so desire. Get caught up or get ahead – either way, a snow day reduces stress.

3. Slowing Down
On the other hand, another way to reduce stress is simply to take it easy. To slow down, maybe watch a show (in its entirety), read a book, or hang out with friends. Sometimes a “mental health day” is just what you need.

4. Getting caught up on Eunoia blog posts!

5. Pajamas
Need I say more?

6. Family
Finally answer that text from Grandma, and call your parents to let them know you’re doing fine. College is a great place to be on your own, but snow days are perfect for letting yourself miss home and family.

7. Playing in the snow!
Just because we’re “mature” college students doesn’t mean we’re above a good snowball fight! It’s always a blast to get outside with your friends, build snowmen, and sled down some hills! On a snow day, suddenly the whole campus is a playground! All in all, a snow day is great because it can be anything you want! Suddenly your schedule is pleasantly empty and the whole day is yours to enjoy! So get out there and have a happy snow day!
So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest.
