Why Small Colleges Are the Best

Welcome to the wonderful world of a small school! Here, the sun is always shining, falling down is impossible, mosquitoes dare not enter, and animals are so friendly they eat right out of your hand. Okay, maybe not, but there are plenty of benefits to attending a small university like UVF! Here are the top five:
1. Relationship
Small colleges offer a unique experience for students to really know one another and connect. It’s a wonderful feeling to walk across campus and be greeted personally by most of the people you pass. Fewer people creates a wider net of support and community. That goes for professors, as well: your teachers know your name, your strengths, and your weaknesses. They can appreciate your work not only for its quality but for the individual behind it. The faculty offer personalized care, advice, and attention. Trust me, it makes all that paperwork a lot easier.
2. Navigation
Getting from place to place is a breeze on a small campus! And speaking of breezes, when it’s cold outside, a trek across the entire campus hardly gives you enough time to shiver. With all the buildings so close together, you can take back-to-back classes stress-free and even sleep a little longer before your morning class begins.
3. Events
On a small campus, there are always fun things to do – and more to go around! The personalized care here leads to opportunities for great events on campus, from dorm competitions to campus-wide contests and awards. Smaller events like open-mic night and karaoke are even more frequent – and don’t even get me started about the celebrations we have for holidays! Laughter is a consistent sound on a campus like UVF.
4. Atmosphere
There’s a certain air about a small, close-knit campus like ours. Everyone is a part of the same culture, the same community, and it shows from the first moment you step onto the sidewalk. People often share the smile of an inside joke and the school has its own personality to which everyone contributes. Truly, the world is peaceful here.
5. Opportunity
Small schools allow you to stand out without being one of an endless crowd. That means when you sign up for clubs, attend auditions, or look for jobs, the whole campus becomes your oyster. You can develop your skills and learn to be the best without the intimidation of a large competition. There’s even space for you to start your own clubs and ministries!
When it comes down to it, small schools are the best because of the connected campus community. This kind of community is able to develop naturally because it’s possible to have some kind of relationship with everyone around you – even if it’s just passing recognition. So yeah, sometimes it rains, sometimes we fall, but UVF has an amazing togetherness and endless avenues for success, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
